A man walked a shore littered with thousands of starfish, beached and dying after a storm. He came upon a young man picking them up and flinging them back into the ocean. "Why do you bother?" the old man scoffed. "You're not saving enough to make a difference." The young man picked up another starfish and sent it spinning back to the water. "Made a difference to that one," he said.
That's what being a volunteer is all about. Making a difference in someone's life even when you don't have to. And that's the type of person we want at Wellness House in Yakima, WA. Individuals and families that come to us are dealing with some of the most challenging times in their lives. They need to feel loved and supported from the moment they walk through the door. Our volunteers help us make sure we create that type of environment.
A small organization with only three staff members, we rely heavily on volunteer support to provide the resources, services and education that our community needs.
